JDS LECTURES IN BOZAR BRUSSELS [BXL]

With N|I|C|H|E, a new series of lectures and micro exhibitions, young Belgian architecture gets a space in the Centre for Fine Arts in Brussels. Every two months, Bozar Architecture invites a young Belgian office to lecture about a recent important project. A scale model will be exhibited in the corridors of the prestigeous Henry Le Boeuf hall. The models will be there for the whole season, dedicated to young Belgian architecture.

Archigram’s Plug-in City, Constant Nieuwenhuys’ New Babylon and Yona Friedman’s La Ville spatiale rank among the incunabula of the 1960s. Combining visionary architecture, pop culture, art, and situationist rebellion, they became known far beyond the narrow confines of urban planning. Till now, however, there has been no exhibition dealing explicitly with megastructuralists’ vision. MEGASTRUCTURE RELOADED seeks for the first time to show them in context.

JDS SHORTLISTED TO CARRY OUT THE EUROPEAN QUARTER FACE-LIFT IN BRUSSELS

JDS is short-listed in collaboration with Studio Associato Secchi-Vigano and consultants as the youngest of five offices in what turns out to be a OMA three tier generation competition!

The planning competition launched last April for the restructuring of the European quarter has now come to the end of the crucial preliminary stage, 5 teams from the initial 35 have been selected. This choice was made after receiving the recommendations of the advisory committee set up for this public contract, which met mid June in Brussels. And it turns out to be an interesting mix of generations, 3 of the 5 have worked together at different times. Both Julien de Smedt and Xaveer de Geyter passed through Rem Koolhass´s office at the start of their careers.
