IAHGNAHS ONHCET | TECHNO SHANGHAI
TECHNO SHANGHAI | IAHGNAHS ONHCET from Speedism on Vimeo.
Speedism recently premiered the 3D animation film titled “IAHGNAHS ONHCET”, which is Techno Shanghai spelled backwards, or should we say blackwards, as the doomed BLACK CELEBRATION that it might be; opposed to “the real” Shanghai, a copy of a copy of a copy, incestuous; mutating, decaying, as an urban themepark, the city of cities, the themepark of themeparks. But in this state of (architectural) being, it starts breathing again… The IAHGNAHS ONHCET story could be(come) fantasy come true of our Chinese adventures through residencies and publications.
The project started as a collaboration with production and promotion platform Arthub Asia and with Crystal CG, China’s major media and visualisation firm working for renowned architectural offices but also commissioned by the Chinese government for Expo 2010 Shanghai and the Beijing 2008 Olympics. After a stay at their Shanghai office, Speedism set out on a solo trip to construct what has become IAHGNAHS ONHCET.
IAHGNAHS ONHCET on display:

Where: KAAI Theater, 20 square Sainctelette, 1000 Brussels
When: Saturday 3rd of October 2009, 22:00 (Free Entrance)
Including an adaptation of Michael Sembello’s Flashdance track She’s a Maniac comes She’s Armenian, replacing the struggles of an aspiring dancer with those of a diaspora Armenian. Young Kurds – a retelling of Rod Stewart’s Young Turks – tells the love story of Massoud and Shirin, a Kurdish couple trying to carve out their identity. Stuck in Ossetia with You (originally Stuck in the Middle with You by Stealers Wheel) looks at the recent Russian-Georgian conflict while Let’s Call the Whole Thing Off (from the Gershwin original) debates not the pronunciation of bananas and potatoes but rather the contested names of cities resulting from historical conflicts.
Each piece will be performed with traditional Kurdish accompaniment, played on the saz, a string instrument, the ney and zurna flutes, and with percussion from the darbuka and the def.
See you there!
LIGHTS ON LED PERFORMANCE
Text Source: thesystemis
Lights On is an audio visual performance created for the Ars Electronica museum in Linz, Austria, which has a facade that contains 1085 LED controllable windows. The windows’ colors are changed in realtime with music that’s broadcasted on speakers surrounding the building.
Visuals coded in openframeworks by zachary lieberman, joel gethin lewis and damian stewart (yesyesno). music by daito manabe, with support from taeji sawai and kyoko koyama. We made this in three days.
The performance is approximately 10 minutes long. this is an edit. also, we’ve recorded the output from the software (audio / OSC) and this performance can be replayed in the future for events, etc.
Special thanks to the awesome ars electronica / futurelab crew, (maria, wolfgang, andreas, ramsay, horst, gerfried and christopher), also iris mayer, carolina vallejo, and rhizomatiks for helping make this possible. also a huge thanks to the excellent technicians Multivision who installed this system: is.gd/BnCy. some info about the install here: is.gd/BkP2
