INTERNATIONAL ARCHITECTURE DESIGN CONFERENCE
SECOND NATURE
Our shifting perception of nature is rapidly changing the way we interact in urban settings, signaling the emergence of a unique new ecology which sees human rituals being drastically restructured by man-made interventions and an onslaught of cultural products. This year’s theme, ‘Second Nature’, aims to look at how design is reestablishing its critical role as a mediator between the technological world and our natural environment. Within this hybridized space, authenticity is readily achievable by way of simulacra, disassembling any hardboiled ideas of what may be deemed artificial and what may be not. Architecture, meanwhile, emerges as a representative of this marriage between the space of real and the unreal, resulting in urban landscapes which thrive, not on mechanical repetition but a mechanical
organic, giving rise to a place beyond biomimicry, namely, a new or Second Nature.

From the end of April to the beginning of June, Rossicontemporary presents the new realizations of Luc Deleu (1944), outstanding figure of the contemporary Belgian art scene. Graduated in Architecture in 1969, over the years Luc Deleu developed a personal and original discourse whose goal is to conceive democratic models for the city of tomorrow.
Sector X is the new phase of the Orban Space project, ambitious and long winded project started in 2006 to analyze the public space of 5 continents at different levels, from global to street scale. READ MORE »
IAHGNAHS ONHCET | TECHNO SHANGHAI
TECHNO SHANGHAI | IAHGNAHS ONHCET from Speedism on Vimeo.
Speedism recently premiered the 3D animation film titled “IAHGNAHS ONHCET”, which is Techno Shanghai spelled backwards, or should we say blackwards, as the doomed BLACK CELEBRATION that it might be; opposed to “the real” Shanghai, a copy of a copy of a copy, incestuous; mutating, decaying, as an urban themepark, the city of cities, the themepark of themeparks. But in this state of (architectural) being, it starts breathing again… The IAHGNAHS ONHCET story could be(come) fantasy come true of our Chinese adventures through residencies and publications.
The project started as a collaboration with production and promotion platform Arthub Asia and with Crystal CG, China’s major media and visualisation firm working for renowned architectural offices but also commissioned by the Chinese government for Expo 2010 Shanghai and the Beijing 2008 Olympics. After a stay at their Shanghai office, Speedism set out on a solo trip to construct what has become IAHGNAHS ONHCET.
IAHGNAHS ONHCET on display:
“Reversed Images; representations of Shanghai and its contemporary material culture”, MoCP, Chicago USA until 23.12.09
“Shanghype!”, Hyde Park Art Center, Chicago, USA until 13.12.09
